DHT progress

Cutting the baffles:
In the center is the home made template I use. The cut-out still needs some fine tuning after useing the template. a little sand paper or free handing the router seems to work fine. You could save your self allot of grief buy purchaseing the round version of the woofer.

How I got started >

Up untill about a few years ago I was listening to music through a set of 2 way Pioneers Purchase price about $130.00 Also a pair of 3way Radio shack speakers with a huge 12 inch woofer on each side. These came with one of these all in one stereo systems valued at maybe $1,000 (time of purchase) My wife would not allow these monsters in the living room. We also had a pair of small Radio shack speakers maybe 3 or 4 inch drivers in a metal box. One day I got curious about what was inside the box and thats where the story starts...

My first project was the D3s These speakers cost about $150 in electronics and maybe another $100 in MDF and Oak. When I completed this project it was VERY obvious that these speakers far out preformed any of my other store bought speakers in every way. At that time my biggest suprise was the Bass, I had never heard anything like it in a 2 channel home stereo, even those big ol' 12inch drivers in the 3way's didn't come close! Now I was hooked, as you can see here. Since then I've built the BR1's, D8mtm's, 2 Subs, 2 sets of DHT - MTs, The "More-Pees" and a center channel.

Here's how the crossover looks, well kind of... Since this picture was taken changed a resistor and mounted it to a 3/4 inch board. I also glued the heck out of it, so now it looks ugly.

You'll notice the box looks bigger than the one Wayne built and that’s because it is. The internal dimensions are about the same but as you can see in this picture I added a double thick baffle and double thick bottom. The Crossover board was also made with 3/4 MDF and put on the bottom so that also was a factor. (Not to brag) But I really prefer the look of my baffle :) Lots of great beefy looking Oak.

The Morel "drop-in replacement"

As you can see by Wayne's web site the Morel MDT20 was not used in the original design. Some time later he came up with this and another option. After looking at his nifty frequency response chart and reading his comments I thought the Morel would work great for me so I went ahead with this option. This graph and commentary are no longer available on Wayne's website. (I got his approval for this graph & comment)

Wayne's comments:

"Overall, the Peerless 850122 + MDT-20, i.e., MorePee, combo sounds different from the D25, not better or worse, but different and certainly acceptable. The MDT-20 is a bit more refined than the D25 and sounds a bit smoother. The D25 appears to provide a bit more resolution. Either way, they both make for a very good system."
